BioI'm a full-time freelance writer who has published a lot of books. Most of them are nonfiction for young adults, although I've published a little fiction (including a frisky novel for Harlequin Silhouette). I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana; went to grad school at the University of Pennsylvania and lived in Philadelphia for some time afterward; and now live in Portland, Oregon. I'm writing this in my deep-blue office. I share the rest of the house with Zachary, my partner of nearly fifteen dozen years, and with our cat, Xerxes (who is neither Persian nor imperious). Various territories outside the house are occupied by other tenants, including but not limited to raccoons, squirrels, occasional opossums, coyotes, snakes that love the crannies in our dry-stone walls, and at least three dozen species of birds.
